Frequently Asked Questions

Who will come to my house?

Me. Dan Schrader. I am the sole owner and operator of Back Mechanics. When you book an appointment, I am the only person who will ever show up at your door. I am a Licensed Massage Therapist and also hold a Master of Information Science. Learn more about me

How does in-home massage work?

It is designed to be completely frictionless. I arrive, take exactly 3 minutes to set up the table, we conduct your treatment, and I pack up in 3 minutes. I respect your calendar, so the timeframe you book is the exact timeframe I am in your home, down to the minute.

How much room do you need?

I need a 5x9 foot space to set up the table and move around it effectively. If you don't have a tape measure handy, this is roughly the size of a standard area rug, or the space created just by pushing your coffee table away from your couch. I can easily make almost any living room work!

What do you bring?

Absolutely everything. I bring a professional-grade heated table, fresh linens, therapeutic oils, music, and dedicated indoor-only shoes to protect your floors. You don't need to provide a single thing.

How much pressure do you use?

Pressure is entirely customized to your needs and tolerance, ranging from very light to very heavy. Because I train to maintain top-tier physical strength, I am capable of delivering the heavy, sustained, deep-tissue pressure required to release stubborn chronic tension without my hands burning out.

Do you only work on backs?

While my specialty is targeting the chronic neck and back pain caused by desk work, I can assess and treat any musculoskeletal pain you are experiencing.

Is it safe to have a massage in my home?

Your physical and psychological comfort is my absolute top priority. I am a licensed, thoroughly vetted clinical professional. If you are ever uncomfortable with the traditional massage setup (underwear beneath a blanket), you always have the option to remain fully dressed in comfortable athletic clothing for the entirety of your treatment.

Do you accept insurance?

No, I do not directly bill health insurance. To keep things straightforward and my pricing entirely transparent, I operate strictly as a direct-pay provider. However, if your health plan includes out-of-network massage benefits, I am happy to provide a detailed receipt that you can submit directly to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

I'm a guy. Is it weird to have a male massage therapist?

It is a common question, mostly because the traditional spa industry markets massage as "pampering." That is not what I do. Back Mechanics is outcome-driven bodywork. Think of it less like a spa day and more like visiting a physical therapist. When you are trying to fix a mechanical issue in your neck or back from sitting at a desk all day, you just need the practitioner with the right expertise, leverage, and clinical pressure to get the job done.

What is the true total cost?

$175 flat (or $125 for new clients with code WELCOME50). I don't believe in hidden fees, contracts, or checkout surprises. This price includes your treatment, all travel fees, taxes, and gratuity. The price you see is exactly what you pay.

What is your cancellation policy?

Meetings run late and life happens. You can cancel or reschedule your appointment online up to 60 minutes before our scheduled start time entirely for free by following the link at the bottom of your appointment confirmation email.
